اثرات مثبت درون نگری
در طول یک دهۀ گذشته مقالات ارزشمندی در مورد اثرات مثبت درون نگری انتشار یافته است. به‌عنوان نمونه در یک پژوهش ارزشمند دو تن از اساتید دانشگاه ام ای تی مطالعه‌ای را بر روی نحوۀ عملکرد مغز موش‌ها در زمان جست‌وجوی پنیر و بعد از پیدا کردن آن انجام دادند. نتیجۀ اسکن مغز این موش‌ها نشان می‌دهد وقتی آن‌ها حرکت می‌کنند و به دنبال پنیر می‌گردند هیچ یادگیری در مغزشان اتفاق نمی‌افتد. دراین‌ارتباط یادگیری تنها درزمانی برای موش‌ها رخ می‌دهد که از جست‌وجوی پنیر دست می‌کشند و به مرور تلاش‌های خود برای پیدا کردن آن در قفس می‌پردازند، در این مورد تجربه‌های ناموفق موش‌ها از کوشش برای پیدا کردن پنیر منجر به یادگیری می‌شود و به پیدا کردن محل احتمالی اختفای آن می‌انجامد.
نتیجۀ تحقیق بالا نه‌تنها برای موش‌ها که در زمان فعلی توانایی خواندن این مقاله را ندارند، بلکه برای انسان‌ها نیز می‌تواند سودمند باشد. برای توضیح بیشتر، تکرار در تلاش برای رسیدن به یک هدف، متشکل می‌شود از ارتباط مداوم مکانیسم یادگیری و حافظه در مغز انسان‌ها، این فرآیند منجر به درک کامل یک مسئله و کمک به حل آن می‌شود. ازاین‌روی وقتی پس از گذراندن یک تجربه به اطلاعات موجود در حافظۀ موقت خود رجوع می‌کنیم، احتمال ذخیرۀ اطلاعات در حافظۀ بلندمدت انسان و توانایی ما در حل مسئله بهبود می‌یابد؛ بنابراین تأثیر زمان استراحت هرگز نباید در فرآیند یادگیری و حل مسئله کم قلمداد شود.
